An old German colleague once said to me, “you be as efficient as you want to be, I’d rather be effective”. Whilst he clearly didn’t appreciate all the work I was doing, he was absolutely right. When you’re a small business you take on far too many tasks in an effort to support your customers, and invariably that comes at a cost of potentially not achieving what you set out to.
Thus when COVID struck it was time for a reset, and so we focused on what Avoke was very good at. In product terms we defined our three pillars of excellence – Video Distribution, Cable Infrastructure & Testing and Audio Experiences. However, our approach remained the same – being supportive, attentive, reliable and flexible.
How we’ve changed over the past 3 years is by focusing more clearly on our customers; how we can make a true difference to them – i.e. business development, and how we bring the products of our 3 pillars to them. There are plenty of good products in this market, but it is how we, as distributors and manufacturers react to questions/ issues/ adversity that makes a key difference.
Avoke has always been aware of the time constraints of its customers, so we try to be relevant at all times. We seek to bring information, so that you leave our conversations knowing more than before, and not simply a drain on your resources by asking you for an order. That’s just tedious and doesn’t promote a growth mindset.
I put a few keywords into ChatGPT to see how else we could describe what we do – it returned with “Personal, caring, flexible, forward looking”. I’ll take that, but only if our customers and suppliers agree. Judging by our current repeat business and growth in new customers we’re on the right path.
